Health Promotion Unit
The Health Promotion Unit of Behboud Hospital advances the goals of health-promoting hospitals, whose primary aim is to transform the hospital from a purely diagnostic and therapeutic site into a place for the prevention of diseases and the promotion of health for patients, staff, clients, and all members of the community. The mission of the hospital is to shift from a treatment-oriented perspective to a health-oriented perspective. The four focus areas emphasized by Behboud Specialty and Subspecialty Hospital are: promoting patient health, promoting staff health, transforming the organization into a place for health promotion, and promoting community health within the hospital environment.
The first step taken by this unit toward health promotion was joining HPH (the international Health Promoting Hospitals Network, established by the World Health Organization) as a health-promoting hospital and conducting the activities of health-promoting hospitals. This is achieved through the establishment of the hospital’s health promotion clinic, in which the Health Promotion Unit of Behboud Hospital operates as an important unit. It should be noted that health-promoting activities have been performed in this center in previous years, including the breast examination clinic, the clinic for parents of martyrs’ families, the diabetes clinic, the nutrition clinic, the blood pressure clinic, and the clinic for the support of pregnant mothers; the necessary resources and personnel for these activities have been planned and provided. Currently, health-promoting activities are carried out at this center in accordance with defined standards, and these objectives are included in the hospital’s strategic plan, operational plan, and mission as one of the main goals of the hospital. Additionally, these activities have been extensively included in the hospital’s 5-year plan. It is hoped that, by implementing these standards, the hospital can take effective steps toward the health of fellow citizens, in alignment with the policies of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and the World Health Organization.
